Making the Most of Therapy

Therapy is a big investment in yourself. I really want you to get the most that you can out of our time together.

Honesty is Welcome

All thoughts and feelings offer valuable intelligence about your life.  As much self honesty as you feel able to bring into sessions, even when it feels a bit scary or unfamiliar, increases trust and can bring great relief for you. You don't have to pretend or think in advance about what you should  say.

Whole Person Approach

During our process, everything you bring to sessions is important. Opening up to  feelings, thoughts and parts of yourself that seem difficult to face can clear the way for a more integrated and loving existence.

Adaptations and Responses

Internal and external  factors matter, and therapy works on your internal state in response to your past and present environment. Exploring your personal narrative and responses allows you to have more choice in how to respond.

Authentic Connection

The relationship we create might in some ways mirror the relationships you form  outside. Our dynamic can let you explore and practice healthier ways of relating to yourself and other people. it is a two way relationship.

Curiosity

Let's notice your emotional and behavioural patterns with curiosity instead of judgment. Identifying why you use certain coping skills creates an opportunity for learning and growth.

Capacity for Choice

We hold the ability to decide our current actions despite current difficulties and old  wounds. Here you get help to identify what you really feel and value. Learning new ways to contain or express ourselves leads to greater capacity for wisdom, choice and action.

Noticing Patterns

Joining the dots can allow you us to understand any primary issues rather than just fixing temporary or minor difficulties.

Joy and Creativity

Therapy can be exciting.  We are not a fixed self - we are a process. Our true nature is flexible and creative.

Foundations and Supports

Our work is most effective when combined with healthy habits. Where possible doing your best to have decent nutrition and using sport, exercise, creative arts, yoga, stillness or whatever works for you helps builds a strong foundation that supports your change and growth.

The choice to heal is very courageous, and your hard work will bring great rewards as you move forward on this journey.
